Senna Vegie – Senna Leaves Extract – 1mg

It is made from the dried leaves of the senna plant, which grows in Africa, Asia, and Australia. Senna leaves extract contains a compound called anthraquinone that helps stimulate bowel movements by increasing the amount of water in the intestine and softening stool.

Senna leaves extract is available as a pill, liquid, or tea. It can be bought over-the-counter or prescribed by a doctor. The usual dose for adults is 1–2 teaspoons of liquid or 2–4 pills three times per day taken with plenty of water. Children’s doses are based on weight and should not exceed 1 teaspoon per day for those under 12 years old. Side effects may include abdominal pain, cramps, diarrhea, and nausea.

Senna leaves extract can be safely used for up to two weeks at a time; however it should not be taken continuously for more than six weeks without consulting with your health care provider. Pregnant women should avoid using senna because it has been linked to miscarriage.
