It acts by inhibiting sodium reabsorption at the proximal convoluted tubule in the kidneys, causing increased excretion of salt (sodium chloride) and water.[4] Indapamide has been found to be effective at lowering blood pressure[5][6][7], both alone[8]and when added to other antihypertensive drugs such as ACE inhibitors,[9][10] angiotensin receptor blockers,[11],[12],[13],[14], beta blockers[15], calcium channel blockers [16]. In addition it has been shown modestly improve symptoms in patients with CHF when compared placebo.[17],[18].
